Specific Procedures for Admission

Some of the procedures for admission to Texas Careers are listed below. For additional information, please click here.

  • All applicants must complete the required admissions documents and submit the necessary fee(s) stated on the Tuition and Fee Schedule.
  • All applicants must complete an informational interview. Parents or spouses are encouraged to be present.
  • All applicants are encouraged to tour the campus prior to starting classes.
  • Ability to Benefit (ATB) does not apply to candidates for admission to the paralegal and vocational nursing programs offered at the San Antonio campus. Applicants to these programs must be a high school graduate; possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate; or possess a Home Study certificate or transcript from a Home Study program that is equivalent to high school level and is recognized by the student's home state.
  • Applicants for admission who do not possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent must complete the CPAT exam, a nationally recognized basic skills test approved by the U.S. Department of Education. In order to demonstrate the student's ability to benefit from the training, applicants must achieve minimum scaled scores as follows: 42 Language Usage, 43 Reading Skills, and 41 Math Skills (contingent upon the test version). ACT or SAT results meeting a minimum score determined by the School may be accepted by the School in lieu of the entrance examination.
  • Candidates for admission to the paralegal program must take the CPAT exam. In order to qualify for admission to this program, the applicant must achieve a composite score of 130.
  • Candidates for admission to the vocational nursing program must take the NET (Nurse Entrance Test) and achieve a composite score of at least 50. Applicants write a 500-word essay stating why they are interested in becoming a vocational nurse and what they feel the program will require of them. Applicants must also provide a current CPR certificate, a criminal background check, and a drug screen.
  • All courses are taught in English. Students must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English. English abilities will be determined through the School's admissions test (if applicable), an interview, and completion of necessary documents.
  • Applications for credit for previous education, training, work experience (experiential learning), or CLEP must be completed prior to the first day of the course for which the transfer credit is requested. This may require testing by examination to determine credit for previous education, training or work experience.
  • All applicants must complete financial arrangements prior to starting class. If applicable, financial aid applications must be submitted by that date.
  • All applicants must complete an Enrollment Agreement. The agreement must be signed by a parent or guardian if the applicant is under 18 years of age.
